Phillies Get Help at Hot Corner

The Phillies improved their team yesterday with the signing of third baseman Pedro Feliz. Feliz is definitely a step up from Wes Helms and Greg Dobbs, who were the main starters last year at the hot corner. Wes Helms definetly had a off year last year and don't be surprised if the Phillies release him or trade him. I think they should keep Dobbs, who is a pretty good hitter. Let's get back to Feliz. He is an excellent fielder who can drive the ball. They signed the 32-year old Feliz to a 2 year contract worth 8.5 million. Feliz smacked 20 homers and 72 RBIs while batting 253, definitely a step up for the Phils. I like this move and think it will improve the team.

  1. Pedro's upside:
    1. Slick defense. Very slick defense. The Phillies' pitchers are going to be really happy.
    2. Good (if inconsistent) power. He'll hit at least 25 HR since he plays in a bandbox now instead of ATT.

Pedro's downside (or what I like to call, things that make you wonder why he's a major leaguer):
    1. Swings at sliders all the time. Even sliders that are obviously 6 inches off the plate.
    2. No patience. He rarely takes pitch counts past 6-7 pitches and he rarely walks.
    3. Lots of groundballs. Lots of double-plays.
